Ahhh! I’m having a baby! We are excited to welcome our first baby in Spring 2021!
It’s been an overwhelming and awe-inspiring experience at once. I feel different, but the same. Deep down, I also know that everything is going to change when the baby comes. In the meantime, I survived my first trimester and working my way through part 2 of this pregnancy.
There are some pros and cons of having a pregnancy during a pandemic lockdown. On the one hand, I haven’t been inundated with unsolicited advice. On the other hand, I miss seeing my circle of friends and having their moral support during this pregnancy. Regardless, It’s been a wonderful pregnancy.
I convinced Mr. C to have a maternity photoshoot with me. We ended up choosing the St. Francis Dam Disaster Site in Santa Clarita, CA. The history behind this location is really haunting and tragic. Built between 1924 and 1926 by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power under the direction of the general manager and chief engineer, William Mulholland, it was supposed to supply the growing water demands of Los Angeles. At 11:57 p.m. on March 12, 1928, the dam collapsed, killing at least 431 people in its flood. You can read more about it on Wikipedia.
Overgrown and neglected, the St. Francis Dam Disaster site is a hangout and a hike for many locals. During our photoshoot, several people passed by the dilapidated road and wild woods. You can still see the dam’s remnants on this hike; chunks of concrete and rebar continue to mark disaster.
Somehow, we completed the photoshoot with just a tripod and my Sony Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera. I mostly used my E 18–55 mm F3.5–5.6 OSS lens for the landscape shots. The closer portrait shot was done using the Starblitz Auto Macro MC 28mm F/2.8 lens. I’m still very lacking in the manual focus department, but I love the look these lenses create in the final product. It was also tough to focus with the many bugs eating us and crazy heat beating down.

We took 80 shots total, but only a few made the cut. Here is the results of our hard work!
Love Always,
